The National Sled Dog Sports Centre, seemingly the only organisation in the U.K. offering distance to encourage working sled dogs, hosted a working event in Culbin Forest on 6th & 7th January 2007. The temperature was betwixt 6 & 7 degrees (C) both days. Trail surfaces were good with only a very short patch of “waterlog” over the 11 miles available. Ten teams, from two to seven dogs ran this course on which two water stops were optional. Two further teams ran 4.9 miles. On the second day, three distances were offered, 11miles, 7 miles or 5.5.miles.
It was interesting to watch the working consistency from the three Mjofjell teams, 90% homebred with David and Kirsty Halliday’s dogs also showing this over the two days.
Thank you to Peter Duncan and Andrew Jordan for travelling so far to help. It was much appreciated. This event will be scheduled again next year !!!
